Government to raise automatic inheritance amount

The Government has decided to raise the maximum amount that a spouse or civil partner can automatically receive from their spouse’s/civil partner’s estate should that spouse or civil partner die intestate to £322k and this will take effect from July 26th 2023.

Another reminder that even if you are married or in a civil partnership, your spouse/civil partner will not automatically inherit 100% of your estate.

It is essential therefore to ensure that your wishes are 100% followed and complied with, that you arrange your Will as soon as possible, clearly setting out legally who is to get what from your estate.
