Becoming an Expat in Spain: Volume 21

The weather in Spain

Mainland Spain is recognised as one of the sunniest countries in Europe with over 3,000 hours of sunshine each year.

Temperatures are mainly mild, but different parts of the country do experience different weather conditions throughout the year.

Spring and Autumn provide the most clement temperatures in general.

The months of the year to avoid if you are not a fan of the heat are July and August and this is true whichever part of mainland Spain you are considering, and you should expect daily temperatures in excess of 30 degrees during the day and 20+ degrees at night.

December, January and February, are usually the coldest and wettest months in mainland Spain, especially in the north of Spain, however, the Canary Islands are usually warm (around 21 degrees) during the day during the winter months and the range of temperature is usually between 20 degrees and 28 degrees throughout the year making it a very attractive place to visit/reside  if temperature is a key component of your decision making when it comes to where to relocate to.
