All about the Spanish Non-Lucrative Visa
The visa is for non-EU citizens - so this applies to anyone in the UK;
You cannot work while you are living in Spain on this visa and are required to demonstrate that you have sufficient means to live comfortably;
If an applicant can adequately demonstrate this then their spouse/partner and any dependent children are also potentially able to join them;
The visa is applicable for one year initially and can then be renewed for a further 2 years at a time;
Once 5 years has elapsed, you are then able to apply for permanent residency;
You must be taking home or have the equivalent of an income of 2,400€ a month (or a lump sum of the equivalent of 28,800€) from a source outside of Spain and you may need to prove you have had this for up to 12 months prior to your application;
Each additional family member you wish to bring with you increases this amount by 600€ monthly or 2400€ as a lump sum;
You need to each have private health cover from a Spanish provider and documents in support of this must be submitted;
You will need to demonstrate that no applicant has a Police record;
You will need to supply a comprehensive medical certificate;
If bringing a spouse you will need to prove that you are married;
If bringing a non -spouse, separate proof that your relationship is genuine will need to be supplied;
All documents will need to be apostilled (stamped as authentic) and translated into Spanish;
Once your documents ae correctly submitted, you will usually receive an answer within 20 -25 days that you have been accepted to start the process;
Applications must be submitted to the Spanish consulate in your home country;
No response from the Spanish consular authority within 30 days means that the application has been rejected;
You will each be required to appear in person at one of the Spanish Consulates in your home country at a specific pre-appointed time;
After this visit an answer as to whether you will be granted a visa or not will be given within 90 days;
If you are successful with your application, then you must register at your local Spanish Town Hall and apply for a Foreign ID card which is commonly called a TIE card and this must be done within 90 days of receiving your successful visa notification;
Remember you must supply your last 6 month’s bank statements in your own name
You will also need to prove you have adequate accommodation to support everyone who is coming to live in Spain, a Town Hall representative will usually make a personal visit to establish this;
When you get your visa you must stay in Spain for a minimum of 6 months every year;
